Sometimes you meet people when you least expect it, and you wonder who and where you were before they turned up

I used to think I was the strangest person in the world, but then I thought,

there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me,

who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do?

I would imagine her and imagine she must be out there thinking of me too.

Well, I hope that if you are there and read this,

and know that yes, it’s true, I’m here, and I’m just as strange as you… – Frida Kahlo

The most powerful thing on earth is the human soul on fire

“I learned from a very young age that if I pursued the things that truly excited me, that they would reward in more important ways, like happiness”

The importance of expression and expressing yourself. Whichever, whatever way you know how, is essential. Stand out. Blending is for those content with mediocrity.

“Tell your story. even if it is dark. shame is a shade of you; colour in the hard parts. put it in the fire. send it back to the stars. sweat hits my chest, I’m praying hard. all I can see is infinity of dark. all I can hear is that beating drum in my heart. creators shadow. cast your love over me”

Frida Kahlo to Marty McConnell
by Marty McConnell

leaving is not enough; you must
stay gone. train your heart
like a dog. change the locks
even on the house he’s never
visited. you lucky, lucky girl.
you have an apartment
just your size. a bathtub
full of tea. a heart the size
of Arizona, but not nearly
so arid. don’t wish away
your cracked past, your
crooked toes, your problems
are papier mache puppets
you made or bought because the vendor
at the market was so compelling you just
had to have them. you had to have him.
and you did. and now you pull down
the bridge between your houses.
you make him call before
he visits. you take a lover
for granted, you take
a lover who looks at you
like maybe you are magic. make
the first bottle you consume
in this place a relic. place it
on whatever altar you fashion
with a knife and five cranberries.
don’t lose too much weight.
stupid girls are always trying
to disappear as revenge. and you
are not stupid. you loved a man
with more hands than a parade
of beggars, and here you stand. heart
like a four-poster bed. heart like a canvas.
heart leaking something so strong
they can smell it in the street.
